The Singapore Botanic Gardens is situated just minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the city. An oasis in the commercialised, built up island, the pop of greenery and serenity is both surprising and refreshing. Walking through the carefully maintained pathways, it takes some time to reconcile that the peaceful surroundings is just a stone throw away from shopping district Orchard Road.

2 Sundays ago, we took a walk in the park.I’d like to think the kids enjoyed the change in landscape as much as I did. It helped that Jayden was given a chance to tinker with the Golden Half. And I’m rather pleased with the first images from that row. We will go back again I’m sure. There’s just so much ground we managed to cover. I’d like to drop by the Children’s Garden too!

But in the meantime, enjoy the wonderful range of flora and fauna that have been captured by others at the Gardens. Happy Monday!

8 years ago, the then-boyfriend (now husband) and I went on a trip to Canada for a friend’s wedding. We took the opportunity to tour bits of Canada. We landed at Vancouver and a spent about half a day on Victoria Island. Amongst the sites we visited, we stopped over at Butchart Gardens for a sensory overload.

The flowers were gorgeous. The landscaping was amazing and the blooms, beautiful. It was as if each flower was trying to outdo the next in putting its best petals forward. The bees were really in for a treat, hovering from one bud to the next. It was almost like a slice of heaven. Well, if you aren’t sensitive to pollen I guess.

Quite obviously, our fingers went into overdrive. You’d be hard pressed not to. And pretty much every bloom looks gorgeous.

Enjoy! Perhaps, some day, we’d be back. (Looking through these pictures, I wonder about the insane one-uppance for more megapixels. These were all taken with a 3.2 and they look great even in print. Ok, granted, you’d need them megapix if you are printing hugeass images!)

The weather in Singapore has gone somewhat topsy turvy. Heavy rains leading to floods, and a sad fatality. Rain evokes so many different emotions. Some of them, extreme. It can be hauntingly beautiful though. And take on whatever mood you are feeling.

Always remember though… there is sunshine after the rain. And a beautiful rainbow to boot.

I do think that the organisers of the Great Singapore Sale would love to make this their poster after the some netters have cheekily coined the sale, the Great Singapore Sail. :)

I'll let you take my four leaf clover

Just felt like a little greenery is needed. No harm that these are thought to bring good luck! No matter what you feel about four leaf clovers, these photos exalt the lil green plant.

Enjoy and here’s hoping you’re having a great week ahead.

This friday I’m loving …

  1. that it is friday, can you smell the weekend?!
  2. that K’s fever has finally broke and I’m no longer hugging a hot water bottle (or what feels like one)
  3. the long weekend (school’s out on Monday!)
  4. all the gorgeous Swarovski bling I looted last couple of weeks
  5. that Canada Post is back in business!

So, erhmm, hang in there whilst I work to get new designs up, the table tidied and your emails answered.

So the school holidays have just ended. But did you go anywhere? We didn’t. Not out of the country anyway. Not complaining, just stating a fact. Like how gorgeous these images of infinity pools are. They are rather inviting aren’t they?

Caution: huge amounts of wanderlust ahead.

saipua

I stumbled upon a post by Saipua of the hellebore flower and was captivated. I trawled the net for images of the beautiful flower, and fell more enchanted with it. Then midway, I realised, it was also known as Christmas Rose. And, I had featured it last year. Still doesn’t take away from its beauty.

Enjoy a revisit to this flower. With an all new selection of images.

Letters

To our friends in Canada, sorry but mail is gonna be mega delayed. I guess you’d already know that Canada Post is indefinitely closed. For shoppers intending to surprise friends in Canada, well, erhmm, you’d have to go the expensive shipping route (via Fedex, UPS, DHL) or wait it out. Apparently talks have broken down between Canada Post and the workers. And we are all just hanging in there. The post office has shut and the mailboxes have been sealed. So no international mail agency is accepting mail to Canada right now.

Still, take time to smell the roses. Mail isn’t what it used to be. How often since you last received a handwritten note? How beautiful the cursive lettering? And how charming to know that someone took the time to source paper, sit him/herself down to write and post it off? Bills and official letter notwithstanding, therein lies the charm of mail.

The tender word forgotten, the letter you did not write, the flower you might have sent, dear, are your haunting ghosts tonight...

ps : I’d be out today, spending some time to catch the tailend of the holiday programs. I’d pop in to answer emails on the go but I won’t be making any extra mailruns. Hopefully with school restarting on Monday, life will be back to normal. Whatever normal is!
