Twelve Cupcakes

We stumbled upon this lil bakery a week ago. We thought we’d go for dinner and pop back in to see what flavours were on sale. We went back to empty shelves. So when we visited and spied cupcakes, we grabbed them.

Yummy.

A very new outfit, they are probably trying to get their numbers right. They have been known to sell out by 7 or even 6, when their closing is actually 9pm. The cupcakes are moist and flavorful. Not to mention, a pretty sight.

The shop is by Daniel and Jaime Ong, with Jaime being the baker of them goodies. Not that it should mean much. After all the proof is in the taste test no? (They pass!)

For more information, reviews and updates, drop by their facebook page or tweet them.

If you have cake decorating skills that are like my kids’, cake bunting is probably the easiest and nicest way to personalise your cake without destroying it. A simple idea, you can either purchase the bunting or make it yourself. And to get you inspired, here are some images of real cakes.

If you’re buying, perhaps the most famous Etsy seller is Kiki La Rue. Right now though, she’s put her shop on vacay (she’s on maternity leave).

DIY Sugar Hearts

Yes, I have an unhealthy obsession with hearts. You can make the rest of the sugar shapes if you wish. I’m homing in on the hearts. Easy peasy DIY. A fun time-waster activity for the weekend. Make a whole jar and dress up your morning coffees with these sugar hearts and perhaps, just perhaps, Mondays won’t look so blue after all.

Happy weekend!

Now seriously, would the sugar taste sweeter? Sugar rush! Available at Love, Loans + Linen. They do have an online store but these don’t seem to be stocked there.

Makes a lovely sight at weddings don’t you think?

Weekends with the Ngs

We didn’t quite have any agenda last weekend, and obviously lacked the courage seeing we somehow managed to feast the two days away. All very yummy, all not too good for the waistline. We started of with a Saturday brunch at Little Part 1 Cafe. A lovely respite in Thomson, and one we had been meaning to go for the longest time. We were headed for dimsum at Thomson Plaza but the full carpark and empty tummies led us down this path.

A wonderful stop. Perhaps due to the rain (it had thankfully, dwindled down to a drizzle by the time we arrived), there weren’t any others except a couple. Our apologies to them because, well, their peace was wrecked by our two terrors. The food was yums… In addition to the nachos and the chicken, we had their meatball spaghetti and brown cow (old school root beer float) and strawberry lemonade soda for drinks. Well worth another visit.

Our kids enjoyed themselves. Clamouring all over. The books were an interesting mix. I was rather surprised to find ‘We’re Going On A Bear Hunt’ thrown into the pile. We dug it out and settled in for some noisy reading. The kids tried their hand at twisting (and messing) the rubic cube, hemmed and hawed at the old school chess set and the clumsy tv set (Jayden declared it an oven?! but Kath got it right).

It was a nice start to the weekend. I hope we’d be back!

Celebrating Cookyn Inc's Launch!

There never seems to be enough time to do everything and things get piled up. I was going through my photostream when I caught sight of the photos from Cookyn Inc’s launch. So heck, better late than never… here’s Cookyn Inc!

Celebrating Cookyn Inc's Launch!

The lovely husband and wife team of Merv and Amanda have come so far since they first hosted cookyn lessons from their humble home kitchen. Right now, they are operating out of an amazing place at Garden Hub (an up and coming cluster somewhat styled after Dempsey). Hosting team bonding sessions, special cooking classes and an assortment of activities inbetween, the place is truly great.

Here are some snaps from the launch party held on 1 May (*gasp*, yes, tardy I know!). They give a small overview of the beautiful place they have and hopefully, help whet your appetite somewhat! Do check them out, especially the parties they conduct. I love that they have Family Sundays! A great way to bond… over food.

Get Cookyn!

(ok, so there aren’t that many shots of the place as I thought I had. But take my word, it’s a lovely place to be!)

It suddenly occurred to me that there were MANY lavender scented products I was using at home. From bath and body products to air-fresheners and floor cleaners, they all had a whiff of lavender. Pity we cannot get ‘fresh’ lavender. I’d grab those in a jiffy.

So this week, I went about the web to discover a whole collection of lavender infused products. Enjoy and may they give you a sense of calm.

Here in Singapore, we celebrate Chinese New Year. And for parents’ who are busy entertaining restless kids that have just come home from school, here’s a fun lil origami craft. Courtesy of Yoke Bakery.

Shoppity Shop!

Of homemade (cup)cakes and the like. Somehow when you become mum, you become more aware of the amazingly detailed cakes that indie bakers are dishing out of their home kitchens. Each party seems to bring with it an even more amazing array of edible goodies. Some, almost too beautiful to eat. But eat you must for it will be a sheer waste of effort. (In my opinion at least!) But of course, not without taking a million photos of said spread.

And it is not just in the US. though they have some amazingly beautiful ones. Locally, here are a few I’ve found to be gorgeous in looks. I can’t say much about the taste as I have only tried Mong‘s (yummy of course!) and licking computer screen doesn’t get me quite near enough to the real thing.
