Living in the city and fancy too much concrete all around? These lil jars of greenery might do the trick. Self contained, they are little bits of the outdoors brought indoors. And if you feel up to it, you might fancy making one of these yourself. Or just buy them. Do note that there are restrictions on buying these into and out of your country… because, they are live plants after all.

I somehow assumed lilac as another name for one of those pantone shades of purple. I don’t know why it never occurred to me that it actually was a plant as well. So I’ve got to make it right, somehow. Starting with this week’s Floral Monday’s post dedicated to the sweet lilac plant.

So, these aren’t the sort of blooms you were thinking of when I said ‘floral’ but really, they have a different kind of beauty that is pretty darn unique. And won’t you look beyond the greens and see their beauty?

Style Me Pretty

Convinced much? I’d say it is a novel way of doing things. A style that looks best at outdoor / garden weddings or parties but kind of out of place in tropical Singapore. Chances are, it’d blend in with all the green leaves. What say you?

My wedding’s over and done with (some 6 years ago!) but I never quite stopped following bridal blogs and stuff like that. I don’t think I will in the near future. The happiness and joy as the brides prepare, amazing. And well, uplifting too. It is wedding season in the family and with a couple of our customers too. And my pinboards over at Pinterest are laden with beautiful bouquets. So for this week, let’s bring you the gorgeous flowers that make a special day, even more beautiful.

Hello, hope that your Easter weekend was spent with family. We certainly enjoyed the short break from the crazy work schedule around here. Regular programming again today but in honour of the season, Floral Mondays is featuring lilies.

… and we are back. It was a nice trip. Tiring but nice. I didn’t manage to finish all I had set out to do (work wise). I guess that I’d be burning the midnight oil these next couple of nights to finish up the Nesting necklaces. Speaking of which, my heart dropped when the breaking news showed the latest quakes and aftershocks. Sigh, #prayforjapan won’t you?

Enough of the rambling. Time for some beauties. This week’s focus is on Sweet Peas. They are typically ‘filler’ flowers but really, they are pretty on their own.

Glory of Spring

Living so near the equator, we don’t experience the four seasons. It is more a subtle difference of hot, hotter, hottest with rains thrown in at assorted timings. These couple of days have been exceedingly hot and humid. It seemed as if we were experiencing our own version of changing seasons. Spring is happening right now. And these fresh blooms just made me want to cheer. A new beginning then for a new week!

“We've known each other by CHANCE, became friends by CHOICE, still friends by DECISION. And when we say FRIEND FOREVER, that's definitely a lifetime PROMISE! “

With all the heartwrenching news updates coming after the mega earthquake in Japan, you can’t help but think of the country. I wanted today’s floral feature to be on the national flower of Japan, but apparently, they don’t have one. Not that it is the most important thing right now, but a bit of beauty never hurts.

The Sakura is often thought to be the national flower, as with the chrysanthemum. The royal family has stylistic images of the chrysanthemums and so, I’d go with that for today. And do remember to say a little prayer for Japan whilst you browse these images.

" When you ask God for a gift, be thankful if he sends, not diamonds, pearls, or riches, but the love of real true friends."

Morning Glories

Every weekday morning on the way to kindergarten, we’d pass a small plot of land, fenced in and laden with creepers. Morning glory, when in bloom, adorns a portion of the fence and makes a pretty sight. Some of the plants were of the blue variety and the other, purple. A beautiful mix, a nice way to greet mornings.

bouganvillea

Technically, the beautiful part of what we typically call the Bouganvillea flower is not the flower but leaves. Still, who’s getting all high and mighty in this aspect? We all just need a little perk me up. A bit of colour for a whole new week… and to chase away those nasty Monday blues.

This week was considerably hard to kickstart so I figured I’d start on something close to home. The humble bouganvillea can be seen almost everywhere in tropical Singapore. Dressing the streets in splendid shades. The most common have got to be the purplish pink ones though they are all lovely. Hardy, easy to prune (and grow) , they are quite fun to have around.

Hope your week is off to a beautiful start!
