Happy Holidays!

The Tree

Ok, so the posts haven’t been as regular as before. But we have been working behind the scenes on new pieces. Which, I guess is nicer. I mean, eye-candy galore.

Doves In Love

I’ve a soft spot for the ultra bling-ed Fleur. It is really all sparkly in real life. A very versatile piece, I’d have worn it for my wedding in a heartbeat. Plus, it can be worn out on other occasions. Worth the cost per wear!

blessings ~ a house full of sunshine

I’m on a minimalistic streak right now. Preferring my pieces returning back to the basics. A simple charm, a contrast in elementary materials, a focus on the singular beauty of the stones. I’ve fallen in love with Swarovski again. I’ve restocked my box labeled Swarovski and its filled to the brim with manmade crystals. Each one sparkling as they reflect the sunlight.

beauty of a thousand stars

mint ~ refreshing surprises

skies ~ blue dreams

In a hierarchy of supplies, Swarovski are very much preferred. They have got their craft perfected well. They may not be natural but they hold their own. They are much prettier than the china knock offs and lend a nice weight compared to the colour coated plastics. They aren’t exactly cheap. I guess it’s a matter of paying for what you get. In some cases, they may be more expensive than natural stones. Though it really depends on what they are erhmm, imitating.

Compared against their more expensive counterparts like citrine and blue topaz, Swarovski crystals give a middle ground for the budget conscious. A much appreciated market for wedding parties and gifts.

geometry 101 ~ coming soon!

I’ve delved into my gemstones chest too. And uncovered forgotten treasures. Bits of blue, of pink. Little crystals of natural beauty, each one beautifully faceted to show off their colours. They make me think of summer weddings. Of exuberant hues and light cotton outfits. But those, they’d be showcased on another day.

Sparkle Thots Jewellery :: The MRS (Necklace)

The holiday’s over but the wanderlust has never stopped. Been trying to work it off but all the travel deals sent direct to inbox or via sms are so hard to ignore. I guess, working to pay the bills and hopefully, another trip would be the best motivator huh?

This week, I’ve a mix of newbies. A few new items that I had always wanted to dabble in. They are somewhat different yet similar. Different in styles, or more accurately, the occasion you bring them to, but similar in how they remind me of things.

Sparkle Thots Jewellery :: The MRS (Necklace)

I’ve just gotten my hands on some stamping blanks that I am totally in love with.

Facebook had been reminding me that my anniversary is coming up. And in keeping with tradition, I do some ‘wedding’ related item. I’ve adorned the sample version aka mine, with freshwater pearls but really, you can add whatever you like. The MRS necklace, soon to be listed in store. But if you really cannot wait, drop me an email / comment.

Next up are whimsical, Wishes on a String. There’s a saying that your wish will come true when the string wears out. I don’t know but it makes a fun, casual accessory to me. Affordable too. And hey, sold as a necklace, you can wind it round your wrist as a bracelet. Why not? Take the wishes portion with a pinch of salt…

Fool’s Gold, or pyrite also made an appearance. Created for a friend, I added 5 lil nuggets to a chain to represent each member of her family. Again, make of it what you will. Have more, have less, I think it looks lovely. It always reminds me of inner strength that we all have. Just don’t underestimate yourself! Strength, Firm Foundation is already available in store.

So erhmm, me thinks, perhaps you should pop on over to check out what you might have missed? Pretty good for someone who’s just home no?

Sparkle Thots Jewellery :: (Bracelet)
Thanks for hanging in there. For your understanding and love. Things have been a little rough this year. Grandpa just passed on Thursday afternoon throwing the tailend of the week into disarray. I appreciated the repetitiveness of opening and closing jump rings as I explored a new series of designs. I love the complexity and simplicity of them all. Yes, both in a single piece. I’m amazed at the versatility the humble jump ring has when combined in different ways.

But, enough of my ramblings. I’d be back tomorrow with some new items (hopefully). Meantime, in the last couple of days of Christmas shopping, reward yourself with something special. I’d be having randomly marked down items from now till Christmas. So constantly check back at the Etsy store.

My way of wishing you all a blessed Christmas.

** piece featured above and in the previous post are examples of chainmaille. A deceptively simple and extremely repetitive (not to mention time consuming!) method of connecting the humble jump rings. One on each other, one at a time. They really illustrate the point of unity in numbers!

Sparkle Thots Jewellery :: With Love (Bracelet)

The day which we fear as our last is but the birthday of eternity.  ~Seneca

A lot is going through my mind right now. Let’s just keep it short and sweet. I’d be back to sending out your packages on Tuesday.

** above bracelet is done in rose gold finish with a sterling silver “love” charm and bali silver clasp. Made of one too many jump rings with a beautiful resulting byzantine chain. My way of coping I guess.

❤ Rain, An Oyster’s Heart

Pearls have long been associated with a timeless elegance, luxurious and sophisticated. Jewelry designs incorporating them have also moved away from the old “your grandma’s pearls” to more modern aesthetics that can be enjoyed by all age groups. Personally, I like the idea of pearls being an integral part of the wedding jewelry. Either for the bride or the bridesmaid. Even the flowergirl. They lend an air of elegance and sophistication effortlessly.

❤ Spring, A New Beginning

❤ Heirloom, A Bride’s Treasure

❤ Mocha, Treasures From Hawaii

❤ Lustre, The World My Oyster

Whether manmade (Swarovski crystal-centred pearls or shell pearls) or natural, enjoy their overall beauty. There’s bound to be one suited for your taste, budget and needs.

More in store. Above selection have been curated from our Etsy store.

Working Wednesdays :: Season Greetings

spring :: fall :: winter

I’ve an infatuation for bracelets that is quite out of the ordinary. I like them but never this much. My first encounter with them was probably as a child. And those with bells. Yes, what was I thinking of. These days my style has changed and this mini-series is born. I’m still searching for the right mix for summer and will get down to it when I actually find them.

Meantime, the shop‘s been updated to reflect the new mix of SALE items. There was a PIF item but it has already sold. So erhmm, you just got to wait till November. We are right in the midst of preparing for Christmas and fulfilling bridal orders. All very fun. All very exciting.

Sparkle Thots Jewellery :: Bluebells (Bracelet)

Bluebells ~ A Lil Something Blue

It is insane but I finally had the time to list the above bracelet in store. You first caught a glimpse of it a couple of weeks back when I did a floral Monday feature on all blue flowers. Obviously the infatuation with the blue flowers has not left. The whole idea of Bluebells came to mind when I did the product listing and naming. And so.., another floral Monday dedicated to blue.

Spanish Bluebell

~~"O, that lone flower recalled to me - My happy childhood's hours - When bluebells seemed like fairy gifts - A prize among the flowers"~~

Bluebells (Hyacinthoides non-scripta)

I’d admit that living so near the equator, I have not the faintest clue of how the flower actually looks like. Of course I have a romanticised notion of what they ought to be from all the books I’ve read, but seen one, never. I must say, the real flower fits perfectly. A drooping, shy little flower, full of grace and meekness.

Pretty. Especially when you stumble upon fields of them. Move over fields of gold!

Aren’t they perfectly dreamy? I’d love to idle in such a beautiful field all weekend long. Without a care in the world. Maybe, someday. But for the now, happy Monday. It is the start of a new school term over here in sunny Singapore. The last quarter of 2010! Time… does indeed, fly.

photo

Things have been somewhat blue around here. Not because I’m feeling down or under the weather but really, the extremes in the weather. One moment it is all blue skies and blazing hot, and the next dark and cloudy with heavy raindrops pelting down. So this week’s Floral Monday will be dedicated to the blue flowers…

They get their nourishment and drink just the same. And sport a pretty shade of blue. Why let the pastels have all the fans? These can also be just as drool worthy. Just keep an open mind and a ready heart to share some love for pretty blue flowers. Perhaps they’d make the proverbial Monday blues disappear. (Ok, some have been dyed. But think of them as erhmm, mood enhancers!)

Have a lovely Monday!
