From the monthly archives: March 2010

Almost as if my infatuation with all things gemmy is not bad enough, I had the idea of fabric blossoms blooming in my head since the advent of Spring. It refused to go away and kept popping up in my mind. So I finally went to get myself a bagload of fabric (in erhmm traditional ‘Sparkle Thots’ pink) and set to work.

I’m quite happy with the outcome and may have them in store in the near future. What do you think?

The colours really make me happy!

In other news, I blog-hopped my way over to Decor8 and just.had.to.share. Seriously, DIY is not duplicate it yourself. All crafters, hop on over for a read. Pretty well written. And as a parting shot,I quote Linda from the comments section, “In the end I don’t think copies are ever as good as the original because it didn’t come from the heart of inspiration“.

The weekend was crazy busy with my older child down with gastric flu and having the runs all day long. No fun cleaning the soiled mess he created. It also meant that all our plans were thrown out of the window and I managed to sneak in some time to finish up a necklace that the muse had inspired.

This mix of Swarovski crystals and petrol tourmaline has very earthy overtones, an apt tribute for Earth Hour. Made with a mixture of gold vermeil and 14K goldfilled findings. Its a pseudo lariat and can be worn at centre or side. Lovely and classy all at the same time.

** On a side note, I woke up to find a rather interesting post in my RSS feeds. A seller who has been making, marketing and taking pictures all too closely to mine has found a cat of her own. She’s rather indignant about it but really, all I can say is… what goes around comes around. Before being so self righteous about it, please think about the past year or so and what you have been doing. In my opinion, a serious case of the pot calling the kettle black.

Turn negative thoughts off. Back to regular sunshine again :D

Did you celebrate Earth Hour?

We didn’t quite manage to. We were all home watching over a sick lil boy who refused to let us switch off the lights. Nor the aircon. In his grumpy stupor, he was quite adamant about it.

I did however stumble on this photo from my contacts on Flickr. Would you believe these candle holders are actually baby food jars? No? Well, indeed they are. Looking very prettily upcycled, these were put into a tumbling machine as part of an experiment and they came out looking like etched glass, all frosted as such.

Pretty. Now anyone wants my jars? I don’t have a tumbling machine but I got loads of these glass jars!

Photo, ‘craft’ and details over HERE.

** Floral Mondays has been interrupted by this Earth Hour highlight. :P

I realised I never shared this but Carousel has been completed. It is now available in store and I think there’s just something alluring about the mix of smoky quartz and orange garnet. A mysterious attraction perhaps? Another WIP coming up!

well, sorta.

A customer requested for a few simple necklaces that will be suitable to wear on their own or layered for more wear. This resulted in this mini collection of sweet simple necklaces that are beautiful enough to wear alone or with other necklaces. Hope you’d like them too. This series is very affordable too (made with goldplated findings) and make wonderful gifts all year round.

I’ve taken one of Illustrated for myself! It reminds me of Peter Rabbit. Beatrix Potter has such a lovely style of illustrating all on her own. I’m sure you’d agree it is timeless.

Now, hop on over to the shop check the new additions out.

Perfect timing. Lace dyed eggs for Easter.

I actually managed to watch the episode these eggs were featured in. I remember sitting there in amazement and thinking it would be wonderful if I could get them done. With the Easter season approaching, I googled for the how-to and was pleased to find it still archived on Martha Stewart.

However, it does seem like a ‘hit and run’ with this craft. There are quite a few negative comments about how the results are nothing like these while others have gotten the same amazing results. So, use with caution.

Instructions and image from Martha Stewart.

I, probably will have to keep the craft aside for another weekend. Jayden’s down with a fever. All weekend activities planned have been thrown out of the window. I hate the viral bug!

Truly a frivolous affair but these shower curtains on Anthropologie are so lovely. There’s no space for them in our home but they look like a precious spot of sunshine in the bathroom.

Ain’t she a beauty? Seen via Etsy Finds email, I’d love to spend rainy indoor days playing in such a tent. Not cheap but one can dream…

We have all been there… More so if you’re a mother, of a toddler. So, do you feed the lil tyke the food on the floor?

in this mix:-

  • gold vermeil headpins
  • 14K gold filled wires
  • faceted orange garnet rondelles
  • carved smooth smoky quartz lanterns

I really like how the colours came together in the picture on the carousel and I tried to translate the magic of the moment into this latest piece. I cannot draw and when Muse struck, I cajoled the small one for some time to work out a prototype.

A touch of elegance, a hint of mystery, a liberal dose of magic. I like how it is taking shape. I haven’t quite decided whether it be a bracelet or a necklace. Or what ‘sort’ of necklace. Decisions, decisions. Still, the process is truly lovely.
