From the monthly archives: February 2010

erhmm… since we seem to be getting back into the thick of the blogging action… perhaps it is safe to restart the ‘ole schedule’. For the lovelies who have been reading since before baby K’s birth, we’re bringing back the weekly roster.

Floral Mondays, Tuesday’s Quotable Quotes, Friday Selections and DIY Weekends. Now what do you suggest for Wednesday and Thursday? Suggestions welcome.

I love burning essential oils. Well, loved. I’m kinda unsure about burning them with the kiddos around. (What, play with fire? Tired enough to dose off and burn the house down…?!) But this lil smoking house might just entice me to start once again.

love the idea. simple, straight forward, to the point.

and did you have a ‘why didn’t i think of that’ moment…

With all the talk about Spring and New Year, is anyone missing Christmas?

It feels like Christmas just zoomed passed us. It was a time of transition. And right this moment, I feel as if I have forgotten memories of what actually happened Christmas 2009. I do know it was a welcome break after a busy season of ‘ribbon tying’. And whilst it seems so late to say this, I really want to say a big thank you for all your support. I’m glad to be part of your ‘Christmas’.

The ribbons series is still available for sale at Sparkle Thots. We now make them only in 14K gold filled or 925 silver wires only. They take a fair bit of time to make, hence, really, it does not make sense to make them in anything lesser.

PIF — Pay It Forward

I got some queries as to what in the world was PIF. Well, if you remembered (good grief, 10 years ago?!), there was a movie back in 2000 titled Pay It Forward. A touching film with a stellar cast (ok, I love Helen Hunt and Haley Joel Osment), it immortalised and highlighted the multiplier effect, and showed how one small deed can change the world. Tasked to think of something to change the world and put it into action, a boy conjures the notion of paying a favour forward–repaying good deeds with new good deeds done to three new people.

In the ‘Etsy’ world, this is done via listing an item at just the cost of listing. Erhmm, USD 0.20. Plus shipping. It is all done in good faith. Because well, paying it forward is this simple.

So, have you found the PIFs yet? I promise to list more from time to time. :)

Not the best of photographs, but until I can get baby K to model it, this will have to do.

The above tee was lovingly hand-drawn by the talented Sheryl of skhorahit. A beautiful, handmade item that just stole my heart (and breath!) when I opened the package.

A simple concept from a loving mom, because really, with all the talk of lead poisoning, you don’t want to risk your precious tod putting some lead-laden jewellery into her mouth. **aside : although as a jewellery maker, I try to use lead free or approved items, I still do not recommend my jewellery for toddlers for fear of swallowing and choking on small parts**

So Sheryl comes up with hand-drawn charm necklaces adorning the neckline of baby / toddler tees. Charming, sweet and chic. Hop on over to her site to learn more. And custom order yours today. I’m sure you know some baby who would look absolutely adorable in them!

Not that Singapore has 4 distinct seasons to speak about but spring cleaning has finally struck home. Went completely bonkers preparing items for destash (oh the work! checking to make sure they are worthy of a new home, counting to repack them in ‘desirable’ quantities, costing, snapping pictures, listing… GAH) and decided to do a couple of Pay It Forward listings as well as reduce the items of some already listed ones. And these include jewellery too. (Boy aren’t you lucky?!)

Have fun ‘treasure hunting’. I really think they are worth so much more. But I plead insanity.

And erhmm, whilst things have not completely settled into a routine, I’m looking to get back into the swing of things with regular blog highlights all over again. Wish me luck won’t you? It wasn’t a new year’s resolution per se… but a real desire. I kind of miss sharing my favourite stuff from all over!

yes, yes… I know blog posts and new items have been somewhat sporadic. Ever since the new year rolled in (the English calendar mind you, not the Chinese calendar), things have been somewhat topsy turvy. Having two kids upsets the equilibrium. Especially with school, fun time, and all the other daily issues life throws at you.

There are a whole lot of new stuff coming up. Unphotographed and not listed because I’m being fussy and think the already snapped images just do not do them any justice. Perhaps it is time for an outdoor sale. Or a private party. Email me to let me know. Meantime, a couple of new items that should make it to store soon.

Rhodonite roses. All lovely in their pinkish hues. Waiting for new homes… As soon as I can get the time to list them at Sparkle Destash. I got these some time back and just didn’t quite have the time to use them. Every now and then, I’d take the strand out and stare lovingly at them. Only to keep them back in the bead box for another time.

As with a whole stash of beads. Argh. All the moolah. I’m rich in beads. Not money. Drats.

This, however, got made into a pair of earrings. Vintage faux pearls in a chrome kind of colour are handwrapped to CZ studded flower earposts. All findings used are 925 silver. Also coming soon to store. Or email me for a reservation.

Meantime, all orders placed over the weekend have shipped. Watch your mailboxes for their arrival :D Thank you! We are completely sold out of a couple of items as a result but we are sure they found good homes.

With Valentine’s fast approaching, my love for all things pink and pastel-y has a legitimate outlet. This latest piece follows the palette I am currently infatuated with. All feminine, sweet and elegant. Enjoy.

Coming to the shop soon.
