It started rather innocently, this love affair with button bouquets. I first caught sight of one in Lil Fish Studios‘ flickr stream. I loved them. I did a search on flickr and out turned the gorgeous bouquet made by Laurie. It was a done deal.

Many of these are available for sale (mainly via Etsy shops) and a great number have been used as fresh floral alternatives in weddings. A whole set of bridal bouquets (bride’s, bridesmaids’, toss bouquets) and boutonnières have been customised and have done their work very well. They attracted attention by going somewhat against conventionality, are long lasting and can be made to fit your colours. Many of the Etsy sellers use vintage buttons. And if you are tempted to do them yourself, you can even go one step further by adding ’special’ buttons. Special as in with great sentimental value. And after everything is done, you get to keep it as a decor for your love nest. A simple wash would make them good as new.
