Rose Petals

In case you missed out on the announcement a couple of posts ago, the shop has been restocked. Please drop by and have a good look. Browse through the categories too because, things are uploaded so fast, they slip off the front page without you noticing.

I just added a few more items… part of the April-May series. I am currently going through a pink phase… According to various sites, PINK apparently…

Pink gemstones can be used to promote love, self-worth, order and protection from violence or aggression. Carry or place pink gemstones around your home or office to stimulate love and beauty.

Whatever the reason, rose quartz are just too pretty to pass up.

By the way, remember to sign up for the mailing list! Just input your email address on the main page of the shop. It can be found at the left sidebar. Something’s a brewing this April (and April is but a week away!).

Four years ago, there was no “A Wedding Affair”. Four years ago, not many people wanted to DIY their wedding in Singapore. But we did. It was fun. It was different.

Four years on there is a growing group of people who dare to be different. Even on a budget.

So if…

  1. he proposed
  2. you proposed
  3. you bought a flat together and its coming soon
  4. you are just dreaming of the fairytale wedding
  5. all of the above

… and you are embarking on a journey as bridezilla to-be, and a DIY one at that, read on. Learn to have fun. YOUR way.

Most brides to be start off grabbing every available bridal magazine there is in the local market. Some even go one step further to buy The Knot, and the like. Many head online and join the forums, read through the threads, and come away with a massive information overload.

I know I did. I found that some of the threads, especially at Female Brides Online, was a ruse to chat online. Offices may ban instant messaging but replying to forum threads was a way to circumvent the system. So, sieving through the idle chatter to get the nuggets of information was difficult.

Throw in the ‘marketing’ tactics that some companies employ (register as a member and badmouth competitors) and it makes it a big pool of mush. So how now brown cow?  What is a girl to do?

Have a mind of your own. Know what you want and home in on those that meet your search parameters.

Ok? So are you ready to answer these questions?

  1. when’s the big day?
  2. what’s up for the day… ROM, lunch reception, church wedding, traditional tea ceremony, dinner banquet?
  3. are the family, namely the parents, agreeable?
  4. what’s the scale… small cosy affair or is every Tom, Dick and Harry is invited to the big do?
  5. budget budget budget!

We’d be back. Chew on this for the time being.

Sounding very much like a movie title, Shutter Sisters is one amazing blog celebrating women. Women who take photographs. It is a collaborative photo blog that welcomes all women with a passion for photography from experts to amateurs alike. And if you check out the photostream on flickr, you would fall in love with the images, over and over again.

Click with them, they have a series of on-going themes and contests. Lovely.

And sorry, the men don’t get it.

Browsing through the Storque on Etsy, I was tempted to do a short series on weddings in Singapore. Add to the mix, a couple of friends who are just embarking on the journey of being bridezilla plus the fact that the anniversary is coming up, it is quite hard to resist.

While it has been 3 years since and things have changed (vendors I mean!), I adamantly believe that there are a lot of hidden gems online that really need to be shared.

Do you Pingg?

Like Pingg. Its a free web based service that will make your saving the date emails (and tracking) a breeze. Choose from their images (sadly only one exclusively recognisable as for a wedding) or upload your own for a customised invite. Simple, fuss-free. To the point.

Well sent.

Indeed. Stay tuned for the next in the series.

These days, all talk is about Spring. Even though I’m not experiencing the changing seasons, its always wonderful to see the many facets of springtime. Much more fun than the wet weather we are experiencing here in Singapore.

Spring is finally in the air…

A quick browse led me to Heart Dew. Her pictures bring spring to mind. Instantaneously. Take a slow stroll along with her, as her pictures draw you in with their simplistic beauty. Oh to see cherry blossoms in full bloom!

For more spring blooms, check out Flickr. Its a real visual treat.

A couple of days ago I lost the wedding band. I turned the home upside down in search of it. Dug through the packing materials, sieved through the beads, all to no avail.

A month to our third anniversary and it goes missing. How silly to say I cannot wear my original band because its lost. Not because of weight gain (pregnancy or otherwise) but that it went missing… in the home.

So I sought therapy by browsing online. Weird I know. I fell in love with a good many and thought that perhaps I could get those as replacements. Or dress up / occasion rings. They are beautiful in themselves.

Clockwise from Top Right.

I don’t play favourites. I like them all.

And… I did manage to find my band afterall. Tucked between bedside reading books. Safe and sound.

Hmm, perhaps a good anniversary present then?

If you haven’t already known, I can’t draw. Not to save my life. So it was with great delight I found this post on A Thing of Beauty. Stunning really.

Take your time to browse through the shops. Its amazing. To me at least. Now how’s that to spend your long weekend? Idyllic trips down whimsical paths. Maybe add a print or two to your cart. Or all 100 perhaps. I am so tempted.

My current fave is Sarah Jane Studios.

So it rained again today. But that did not put a dampener on my mood. In fact, I am pretty excited. There are a few new collections to be released shortly. Think back to basics — the clean silhouettes that is characteristic of Sparkle Thots.

For a sneak peek, check out A Mother’s Heart and April.
